Canfor Corp. has closed on its US$93.5 million acquisition of El Dorado, Arkansas-based Anthony Forest Products Co.

AFP operates five facilities across Arkansas and Georgia, including a sawmill, two laminating plants and two chip plants. It also runs a Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., joist plant through a joint venture.

“We are pleased to welcome Anthony Forest Products Company to our Southern Pine family which will add to the variety of quality products offered to our customers,” Don Kayne, president and CEO of Canfor, said.

Among other areas, the acquisition will add to Vancouver-based Canfor’s Southern Pine lumber capacity and expand its footprint in the southern U.S.

“We are proud to add AFP to our family of Canfor Operations in the U.S. South,” Kayne said in an earlier release. “AFP has a reputation for quality products and excellent customer service and with facilities located in abundant and high quality fibre supply areas in Arkansas, Louisiana and Georgia this partnership adds exceptional value to our growing US South presence”
