A conversation with a business partner affected by Hurricane Harvey led to a load of donated lumber travelling from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., to Houston, Texas. More than US$15,000 of lumber has been donated to Houston Habitat for Humanity by White River Forest Products; Bedrock Logistics has donated its shipping services to get the 2x4s to their destination.

In an article on the SooToday site, Bob Giroux, president and CEO Soanbert Corp, the parent company of White River Forest Products, explained the connection. “White River Forest Products is a community-based enterprise. Basically, it’s owned by the community of White River, Pic Mobert First Nation, and private investors that are led by Frank Dottori,” he said. “We’re donating from one community to another.”
