Resolute Forest Products Inc. (TSX:RFP) says it’s getting into the paper towel and bathroom tissue business.
The company says demand for tissue has been growing while demand has fallen for other types of paper products.
The Montreal-based company says it’s investing US$270 million for a tissue-making operation in Tennessee that would make private label premium products for the home market.
Resolute says construction on the plant at its existing Calhoun pulp mill in Tennessee begins soon and production is expected to start in 2017.
It expects to add more than 100 new jobs for the tissue operation, in addition to 50 at the Calhoun pulp operation.
