TORONTO — Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade issued the following statement in response to the Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement:“Ontario welcomes this important new interim agreement that will support continued trade between Canada and the United Kingdom (UK).
The UK has been an essential trading partner for Ontario for generations, accounting for $19.6 billion CDN in two-way trade in 2019 alone and making the UK Ontario’s second biggest export market. We encourage the timely ratification of the new agreement to ensure that essential trade relationships are not disrupted, and businesses are not impacted.
Our Ministry looks forward to working with the federal government to fully assess this new interim agreement, and to supporting federal efforts to negotiate a comprehensive agreement in the near future. We would also like to express our congratulations to the Canadian and British negotiating teams on accomplishing this major milestone.”
