Sault Ste. Marie — EACOM Timber Corporation was joined by Habitat for Humanity Canada and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) at its Sault Ste. Marie plant to unveil an important partnership. Building on its support of Habitat’s 2017 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, EACOM will donate $100,000 in lumber and engineered wood products, certified to the SFI standard, to support 2018 Habitat builds in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Bracebridge, Wiarton, and Ottawa.

“Our work transforms lives. We know that Habitat homeowners experience better educational and employment outcomes, along with improved health. And that transformation doesn’t end with one family – it starts there, and extends outward to the community,” said Mark Rodgers, president, and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada and Chair of SFI’s Board of Directors. “And it’s because of generous donors and industry partners like EACOM Timber Corporation and SFI that we’re able to continue changing lives through decent and affordable housing.”

Founded in 1985, Habitat for Humanity Canada is a national, non-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a decent and affordable place to call home. Habitat for Humanity Canada works to help families build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

“Habitat’s mission of building safe and respectable homes and giving families hope for a better future resonates with EACOM’s commitment to supporting thriving communities,” said Kevin Edgson, president, and CEO of EACOM Timber Corporation. “Our quality Canadian wood products will be put to good use in Habitat homes; that is something our employees can be proud of.”

EACOM business partners Kelsey Trail and Aaron Transportation have offered free-of-charge transport of donated products to Habitat for Humanity’s build sites. “Thank you to our partners for joining us in this effort. We are coming together to contribute to making a difference,” added Edgson.

Flourishing communities are an essential component of sustainable forest management. Habitat for Humanity homes are some of the greenest affordable housing developments in Canada.

“SFI is a proud supporter of Habitat for Humanity Canada. Through our Indigenous Housing Partnership, women’s builds and youth builds we have seen time and time again the positive impact Habitat for Humanity has on communities across Canada. We are thrilled to see these initiatives grow through the partnership between EACOM, an SFI program participant, and Habitat for Humanity Canada. Together, our partnership stands for future forests, responsible procurement of forest products, and sustainable communities.” concluded Kathy Abusow, Presiden, and CEO of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc.

EACOM, Habitat for Humanity Canada and the SFI invite the public to volunteer with a local Habitat this summer. For more information, visit www.habitat.ca.
