Limited seats are available for the four-month Coastal Forest Resource program in Campbell River this January, designed to give students an advantage in BC’s forestry industry.

The four-month program provides students with hands-on skills and knowledge to start outdoor careers on the B.C. coast.

Graduates say the program provided enriching career opportunities on the BC coast. Other graduates say they are thankful to learn essential skills and knowledge from veterans of the forest industry.

Far from being a dying industry, Coastal Forestry graduates are in demand, with the Truck Loggers Association and Canada – B.C. Labour Market Development projecting 4,650 job openings in coastal forestry and logging industry over 10 years.

Local forestry companies participate in a work experience component, often hiring students as they graduate. Graduates also find work in wildfire suppression, continue their training in log scaling or qualify for entry-level careers as forestry field assistants, compasser/timber cruiser assistants, junior layout engineers, tree planters and more.

The program is one of several resource industry-based opportunities available at NIC’s Campbell River campus this year.

NIC’s Aquaculture Technician I program starts in January and a Coastal Log Scaling program starts in February.

Additional programs and training opportunities may be available. Visit www.nic.bc.ca or make an appointment with an Education Advisor for more information.
