West Fraser is one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2021. It’s the fifth time they have received the award.
The Company was recognized for its commitment to young people and for helping them build their careers. West Fraser is dedicated to empowering young people to challenge themselves, supported by our “promote from within” culture. We received this award, in part, due to:
- West Fraser partners with the College of New Caledonia to offer apprenticeships for millwrights, electricians, heavy -uty mechanics and saw filers — the Company pays for tuition and books while apprentices are in school and provide additional living allowance, salary continuance, and an interest-free loan to purchase tools — once back at work, the apprentice is paired with a journeyperson mentor to continue their training and development.
- West Fraser manages a “New and Young Worker Program” to provide extensive training to employees under the age of 25 — the program includes orientation, job-shadowing and dedicated training with a supervisor and the mill’s safety resource.
West Fraser prides itself on supporting all of our employees, at every stage in their career. We know that to be a global wood products leader we need dedicated employees and to develop them so they can achieve their potential. It’s our honour to recognized for our commitment and to be chosen by young people as a place to grow their careers.
The Young People award is in its 19th year, and it’s a special designation from MediaCorp’s Canada’s Top 100 Employers national competition. It recognizes employers offering the nation’s best workplaces and programs for youth people starting their career, as well as how they retain their employees. You can learn more about the award here. West Fraser also received the Canada’s Top 100 award for the eighth time in 2021.
