The saw filer apprenticeship program at Thompson Rivers University got a hand from two industry partners. Canfor and HMT Machine Tools Canada have donated a Vollmer CHC20 top and face grinder to TRU’s saw filer program at the Williams Lake campus, the Williams Lake Tribune reports.
The saw filer program is the only one of its kind in Canada. It has produced 219 graduates since beginning in 2013.
“There is a lot of excitement among industry to see that program brought back,” said Travis Emel, operations training lead for Canfor, told the Tribune.
Canfor donated the equipment to the program. HMT Machine Tools Canada provided a retrofit and rebuild to make it suitable for students.
