The Algonquin Forestry Authority (AFA) is seeking to fill Operations Supervisor contract positions for the 2024-25 season.
The AFA is the Ontario Crown agency responsible for sustainable forest management in Algonquin Park. Our responsibilities include harvesting and distribution of wood products to mills in communities adjacent to the Park, as well as forest management planning, silviculture, and compliance monitoring.
Positions and Location:
- Operations Supervisor – Pembroke or Mattawa
- Operations Supervisor – Madawaska, Whitney, and/or Huntsville
*may require occasional remote work that involves overnight stays away from your base of operations.

September 2024
Duration:
To March 2025 (upon completion of probationary period), with the possibility for contract extension and/or permanent positions.
Job Description:
Operations Supervisor Duties – responsible for operational planning, working closely with logging contractors and supervisors, monitoring and reporting on contract harvesting and road construction operations, professional interaction with Government and Industry partners.
Compensation:
Advertised positions are subject to a 40-hour week and hourly rate of pay from $31.25 to $37.67 based on qualifications and experience. Candidates that do not meet the minimum requirements may be considered for “in-training” positions with pay reflective of their level of qualification below the job range.

Candidate Requirements:
Candidates must demonstrate how they meet each of the following criteria:
- Successful completion of post-secondary education in the field of forestry from either an accredited College or University.
- A minimum of 3 years of forestry experience working in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Forest region, including supervising harvesting, road construction, and water crossing operations.
- Forest Operations Inspection Program (FOIP) certification and Ontario Tree Marking certification and knowledge of the silvics of tree species of Algonquin Park.
- Experience with tree marking and silviculture projects is also an asset.
- Experience tracking costs and writing reports using various Microsoft applications; experience using both GPS and GIS software.
- A strong commitment to maintaining a safe workplace and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Experience working with a Certified Forest and Environmental Management System are considered assets.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and experience driving bush roads in all weather conditions as well as operating and maintaining all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and snowmobiles. A chainsaw operator certificate is also an asset.
