Having cleared a number of legal hurdles earlier this year, a biomass-to-energy plant in Merritt, B.C., is now in the commissioning stage, and is still on track to be fully operational by the fall, according to the Merritt Herald.
The plant generates electricity by superheating wood residuals and sawdust, and using the gas and steam to turn turbines.
Called the Merritt Green Energy Project, it will consume about 307,000 tonnes of biomass a year. The plant is expected to use sawmill and logging waste.
